Other shared use paths

Strawberry Line external link
A new path on the route of the railway from Yatton in the direction of Cheddar and Wells. Incomplete as yet, the route, originally designated a nature reserve, now includes an improved shared-use path as well. The start at Yatton is accessible by rail and you can cycle as far as Winscombe. The route includes a (short) tunnel, which will incorporate low level LED lighting of the sort envisaged for our tunnels. Do pay their path a visit. They have a support group
Great Northern Trail external link
Close to Bradford, Yorkshire and now open in part. The story of its development repays investigation.
Ystwyth Trail external link
Emerging route from Aberystwyth to Tregaron, a dramatic route through remote and beautiful countryside.

Local Interest

Bath in Time external link
Created to improve awareness, understanding and appreciation of Bath and its environs. Over 5,500 historic images from public and private collections available to view online, with high quality copies available to order, with delivery typically within 24 hours.
Two Tunnels Path external link
Bath and North East Somerset Council's page on our project.
Colliers Way external link
Information on the NCN 24 between Dundas and Frome. A large amount of this route is now explorable in one form or another, and there's plenty to visit along the way. You can even cycle from Bath to Frome and then return to Bath by train - even on a Sunday - but check train times first as the service is irregular.
Mendip Main Line Project external link
Managing the emerging visitor attraction at Midsomer Norton Station, their work has already resulted in the reappearance of a cameo portrayal of the line as approached via Charlton Road.
Radstock Museum external link
Vibrant local history museum. Even better, it has a cafe attached. Ginger cake highly recommended ...
Radstock and Midsomer Norton's '5 Arches' Connect2 project
'Youtube' video from the route ... and 5 arches website
Shillingstone Station Project external link
Away from the local area as it's to be found many miles south of Bath, on the southern section of the S&D line, visiting this restoration project provides a useful reminder of just how many miles long the line was.
Proud of Twerton external link
Resource site for Twerton, suburb of Bath.

Local Businesses

Mr B's Emporium external link

John's Bikes Bath external link
Walcot Street ..
Oldfield Park Bookshop
Yes, an independent bookshop in suburban Bath. 43 Moorland Road, Bath, Avon BA2 3PN +44 1225 427722. No web site yet. Just books. Strengths in fiction, biography, local history and children's titles ...
'The Raven' pub
Actually, 'Two Tunnels HQ'. It's appropriately nineteenth century to have a public house as a campaign headquarters. Many great engineering projects and public works (and more than a few white elephants) were kickstarted as a result of meetings in the public houses and hotels of the day. However, we have no intention of resurrecting one of the latter! If you're in central Bath and you need one of our leaflets, and all else has failed, you'll find a stock here ...

Our local cycle campaign group

Bath Cycling Campaign external link
Campaign group working to improve facilities for people who cycle in Bath. The two tunnels project was formed partly as a spin off from the Bath Cycling Campaign, who sent an intrepid group of eight the length of what would be named the Two Tunnels path in May 1995.

Local (and not so local) campaigning: unrelated to the 'Two Tunnels'

Norton Radstock Action Web for cycling, running and walking external link
Campaigning to create a shared use path on a further section of the Somerset and Dorset line, the major obstacle being a large missing bridge span across the main road between the two communities.
Bath Cornmarket, Walcot external link
One of Bath's neglected gems, and currently more or less invisible, this building has the potential to greatly contribute to its local environment and economy - a bit like the 'Two Tunnels' route ...
Cleveland Baths external link
Support the return to use of an unlikely survival - Bath's Georgian open air bathing pool
St Stephens Church Tower Restoration Appeal external link
A Bath landmark, but now over 150 years old, and built with masonry tied together by internal ironwork. You can guess the rest - find out more from their web site.
Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society external link
An international campaigning body working for the interests of these large mammals

Other Stuff

The Parkinsons Disease Society
Fond though he may have been of some aspects of Bath, I suspect that John Betjeman in some ways liked the S&D rather more than the city at its northern end. Both were casualties of the sixties, with the S&D closing, and large swathes of Bath making way for redevelopment, an event marked by a very well known poem from Betjeman - who lasted rather longer.
