The Somerset and Dorset Railway climbs through Lyncombe Vale. No train, though what may be a wisp of steam rises from the mouth of Combe Down Tunnel. This is thought to be the early forties, alongside the line, the telegraph poles are not the ones found in the same location today, being very much taller and more widely spaced - this may speak volumes or the availability of good lengths of timber when the run of poles was replaced at some stage after World War Two.
