Two Tunnels Greenway
A new shared path for Bath and North East Somerset
Return to Tunnel Gulch: Thursday 27th September 2007
Big thanks to everyone who took part, stewarded or sent positive thoughts on the day. If you have photos, please send them along, or upload them to the Connect2 web site. Here's our few, and at the foot of the page we have a clip from the news coverage kindly provided by ITV:

The day produced a number of wins for us
- Support once again from Wessex Water who checked the tunnel for air quality and provided safety cover during the day. This opportunity was much appreciated.
- An estimated 250 people through the tunnel.
- Involvement from four schools.
- Media coverage on the evening HTV news - a really good piece on the project, with some star quality answers to reporters questioning - straight to camera - from Monkton School pupils and a rather outnumbered band from Beechen Cliff - and all this while several hundred feet beneath Firs Field, Combe Down. Thanks to 'Simons big torch', TV viewers were able to see a great stretch of the long straight within Combe Down Tunnel with its natural limestone walls and roof, interspersed with bands of blue brickwork.
- An astonishingly well equipped and well informed gathering from the Paragon School, more on them shortly!
- Media coverage on Bath FM - which went out during the event and actually brought visitors to us.
- Impending coverage in the Bath Chronicle.
- Supporters met with each other and with us ... and in some cases, met again!
- Complete clearance of the deck of bridge 14 - 'Combe Down Viaduct' by the local authority. This is possibly the first piece of physical work on the route of the path and everyone who passed over the route admired the result.
- Memorable quote
- Reporter to JG, 300 feet below ground: "Why has this project started up now?" JG, wryly: "Because everyone kept writing to me about it for years ..." (Several people within earshot grinned when they heard that ...)
